Guess what? It’s Saturday! And I’m writing a post because I have no life. Well, maybe a little one, but not today. Today I’m putting on my party hat and I’m celebrating Saturday all by myself. Woo-hoo!
And do you want to know why I’m celebrating Saturday? (Anyone? Hello?) Well, first of all, Sophie at A Hole in the Fence made me the fodder of her “Women are Fantastic” Friday post (gasp!). I had no idea that I was fantastic…maybe a little fanatic! Is that what you meant, Soph? Because, that? I would believe. Nonetheless, you’re very sweet, and you can tell me that I’m preeetty all you want.
Secondly, being that I am a nerd, I’m going to play along with this new Saturday Photo Hunters thing that I found while lurking on the blogs of other nerds. Because it looks like it could be fun. And it gives me a reason to celebrate.
Saturday Photo Hunters is a themed photo meme that is the brain child of TNChick. To be a part of her meme, I, Lulu, must post a personal photograph each Saturday that best represents the Photo Hunters theme of the week. Are you following me, people? Because if not, click the Photo Hunters Participant badge on the right sidebar of my blog to get the complete scoop. And if you want to view other bloggers photos, click here for a blogroll of participants.
Now, before I get started on this venture, I must note that this is how I normally get myself into trouble and in way over my head. I see something that looks like fun and just dive in without thinking that I actually have to move limbs (i.e. belly up to the computer) and swim (i.e. post a picture every Saturday and write about it). Anyhow, for now, it seems like a big ol’ barrel of drunk monkeys, so I’m diving in and taking y’all with me! It’s a Saturday celebration.
So, because I am a great fan of all things travel, I am going to attempt to relate each week’s theme to a photo from a place that I have visited. Or maybe I’ll mix it up a bit from time to time. Who knows what Lulu might do.
Anyhow, the theme this week is Architecture, and here is my lovely architecture-y-esque photo (and an explanation will follow)…
Ooh la la! I took this picture on my first trip to Paris in February 2005. We had taken a day trip from London to Paris, which is just too crazy to even mention, because who in their right mind thinks that they can see Paris in a day? Uh, completely impossible, but totally worth getting this picture. The Eiffel Tower is a sight to behold during the daylight hours, but at night? Unbelievable. Breathtaking. I want to go back.
Wikipedia states the following about the Eiffel Tower…
The structure of the Eiffel Tower weighs 7300 tons. There are 1660 steps (360 to the first level, another 359 to the second). It is not possible for the public to reach the summit via the stairs, lifts are required beyond the second platform.
And one more quote from Wikipedia, because it reminded me of the picture that follows that I snapped for GR while I was taking the lift up to the summit of the Eiffel Tower. Being a painter, I knew that he would totally appreciate this.
Maintenance of the tower includes applying 50/60 tons of three graded tones of paint every seven years to protect it from rust. On occasion, the color of the paint is changed — the tower is currently painted a shade of brownish-gray.
They totally look real, huh? Perhaps I could convince GR to move with me to Paris, and he could get a job painting the Eiffel Tower? Oui? Don’t laugh. Let me dream, people! He went to a tea bar. Anything can happen, right?

One of the places I want to visit before I die. I have been to France, but not to Paris. Great photo. Happy weekend.
Another place I have never been to. The lighting must be fantastic and the views wonderful, day or night. Those were dummies hanging in the tower? I mean, well they are guys… er, dummies… perhaps I should stop while I am ahead.
