Just Call Me Amelia Bedelia

Y’all, when it comes to housekeeping, I’m pretty much the Amelia Bedelia of the modern age.  Strip the sheets?  Sure!  How many strips do you want them in?  Dress the chicken?  Okay!  How about a nice sweater vest?  Dust the furniture?  Pass the baby powder, please.

I’m just not very good at housekeeping, and I’ve never proclaimed to be.  Just ask GR.  Or come look at the ring around my toilet bowl.  Housekeeping confuses me and gives me a headache.  I never know where to begin, and I think that I also have a touch of ADHD.  So, basically I spend half the day running from room to room starting on one chore, and then running to another room and starting another.  But never finishing anything.  And sometimes crying.

Anyhow, my blog housekeeping skills are just as bad.  Over the past few weeks, I’ve been tagged for two memes, and I’ve also been awarded a Thinking Blogger Award that I haven’t properly acknowledged.  And much like cleaning my house, I don’t know where to start.  So, I’m just going to dive right in and dress the chicken…wait…dust off my blog…wait…

Susan over at One Woman Show was kind enough to bestow upon me the Thinking Blogger Award.  However, I think that she meant to give me the Random Thinking Blogger Award, but okay.  I’ll take the Thinking Blogger Award.  It makes me feel smart!  And here’s what the wonderful Susan has to say about me:

Lulu is smart?

See?  Susan thinks I’m smart.  Bless your dear, sweet heart, Susan.

So, on to my next housekeeping chore.  Kailani at An Island Life tasked me with a meme that requires me to list 8 things about my marriage.  Uh, Kailani?  Do you understand what my life is like with GR?  He is scared of stuff.  And says strange, random things.  Oh, yes.  Just read here, here, and here.  And not to mention that we are complete polar opposites.  But, much like cleaning, I’ll have to take care of this meme at some point in time.  So, I will tackle it now and try not to run into the other room to start something else.

  1. Well, I am not proud of this fact, but GR and I met at a bar on my 21st birthday.  And that’s all that I’m going to say about that.
  2. We both love dogs, going on vacations (real ones, not involving grandparents), and eating Mexican food.  That pretty much sums up our similarities.  Isn’t that enough for a lifetime of love?
  3. We keep separate checking accounts and split the household bills pretty much 50/50.  We’ve done it this way since Day One, and it’s been working now for 14 years.  No arguments about money!  Bliss.  GR thinks that I pay $50 to have my hair cut and highlighted.
  4. We each do our own laundry.
  5. Say what you will, but we have separate bedrooms.  Okay, pretty much everyone who knows us knows this, but it’s not for reasons that you might think.  GR snores profusely at night, plus we’re on completely different sleeping schedules.  Y’all, sleeping in separate rooms is becoming the trend now!  And I love having my own retreat.
  6. GR does most of the house-cleaning and cooking (I’m Amelia Bedelia, remember?).  He’s self-employed and sets his own hours, so he has much more time on his hands than I do.  He’s a marvel of a man, and I wouldn’t trade him for the world!  Wait a minute.  Did I just say that?
  7. If you knew the both of us, you would find it hard to believe that GR comes from a completely conservative family, while I come from a family that is, well, crazy opposite of conservative.  Not that there’s anything wrong with either!  It’s nice that we have that balance.
  8. GR and I do not have children of our own; however, GR has raised Gus since he was 3 years old.  GR is all kinds of wonderful for taking over that responsibility, and I admire and love him greatly for that.  And for many years now we’ve talked about the possibility of starting a little brood of GRs.  However, each time we discuss it, I remember that I’m on my fifth Corona and that I should just shut the hell up.  Or pass out.

So, are you completely engrossed yet?  Yeah, me neither.  And on to my final chore.  Lynn at Everything and Then Some has tasked me with this meme…

The rules of this tag:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
2. List eight (8) random facts about yourself.
3. Tag eight people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).
4. Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving them a comment on their blogs.

Okay, I’ll follow all rules except for #3 and #4.  In life, I find it difficult to sell things and to tag people with memes.  Even though I  don’t mind being sold things or being tagged by memes.  So, if you would like to participate in this meme, then by all means, feel free!  And now I will begin…

  1. I think that I have an eating disorder.  I see, I eat.  I’m going to start wearing a blindfold.
  2. Currently in my snack drawer at the office, I have the following stash:  Craisins, almonds, Fiber One chewy bars, Simple Harvest oatmeal packs, snack-size popcorn packs, Kashi chewy granola bars, Crystal Light peach tea packets, and Weight Watchers snack cakes.  Pretty healthy, right?  But is it healthy when you have one of each all at the same time?  I’m just askin’…
  3. My favorite restaurant is Frontera Mex-Mex Grill—the taco hut that we often visit with Big H and Phoo.  Viva El Gigante!
  4. My favorite dessert is Key Lime Pie.  Sailors’ Grill (also know as Juana’s) in Navarre Beach, Florida makes the best.  Period.  Amen.
  5. Until last week, I drank 6 to 7 cans of Coke Zero a day.  I’m a thirsty gal.  But, since this study was made known, I’ve switched to water.  Tasty.
  6. I love reading Ree’s blog at The Pioneer Woman Cooks.  She has one of the best freaking food blogs ever!  Plus she has this wicked camera that I’m dying to get my hands on.
  7. I love candy.
  8. I am afraid that my bad eating habits will one day get out of control, and I will have to be airlifted out of my home by a helicopter or Richard Simmons.  My name is Lulu.  I am a foodaholic.

And now?  My work here is done.

I thought one of your 8 facts would be that you wear a hat like Amelia’s. Bummer. Actually, after that info-packed post, your work is indeed done. You must need another vacation! Or some candy.

This post cracked me up. Haha! I laughed at that ADHD thing running from room to room. It’s like I can picture that on my mind. And your #1 random fact, LOL! :D
It’s nice to take a peek of your life with your GR and feel how the two of you understand each others’ peculiarities.

And thank you for sharing the link of The Pioneer Woman Cooks. I am into food blogs too lately. I have to agree, I love the food pictures in her blog too!

Aw, come on! Have some little GR bambinos. It’ll be fun! Once the baby comes, I can help. Truly.

Susan: I may in fact have a hat similar to that one. I wear it to the beach. And while cleaning the toilet. That is, whenever I clean the toilet…

Lynn: I think that you just called GR and me peculiar. And I think I like it.

Sophie: No.

LOL! My DH and I have separate bedrooms, too. He’s a heavy snorer and I’m a light sleeper. Not a good combination! Thanks for playing along!

Oh! I love Amelia Bedelia. I can’t wait until Punkin’ is old enough to read her those stories. Your cleaning style sounds a lot like mine — I usually have about three rooms going at once!

P.S. I’m going to “tag” myself for one of your memes. I’m just too darn tired to think of anything else.

I was sure your 8 facts would include GR’s desire for you to dress up as a French Maid.

Sounds like you and your hubby have found what works and makes you both happy. I’m getting to know so much about you!

Throw your socks in the wash!
