A few weeks ago, I was invited (along with several other local bloggers) to participate in a Super Suppers event sponsored by The National Dairy Council and 3-A-Day. At this event, we were to sample dairy-friendly appetizers and meals, as well as create and take home a weeks-worth of dinners. For free!
Needless to say, I leaped at the chance. Okay, not exactly leaped, per se, because it was to take place exactly 2,425 miles away from my home, in Decatur. I had to decide if I really wanted to drive that far for free food. I mean, I can find Twinkies and foot-long hot dogs locally, right? Plus my readers two one reader was expecting a Thursday Thirteen the next day, and how could I possibly let them her down? It was a tough decision. However, free food that did not involve cream-filled fluff or pig’s snouts and unused meat scraps eventually won out. Plus, I found out that Leandra and Sophie were going, so I just had to go.
So, on Wednesday evening after a long day at the office, I arrived here:
And upon arriving, I imbibed in a bottle glass of this:
While knocking back a gallon cup of Sangria:
The end. What? That’s the extent of my cooking ability, y’all! A bit of wine, a bit of sangria…hell, who needs food?!
But see, the great thing about Super Suppers is that even those people with cooking disabilities can put together a delicious meal without even trying! It’s true. Everything is chopped, diced, blended, and laid out before you. A monkey can do it. See Lulu the monkey?…
With the help of my friendly Sangria, I was able to easily put together all of these delicious dinners that I could take home and freeze.
And they were all easy except for the Meatless Lasagna. The meatless part threw me off.
Nevertheless, as God and Super Suppers as my witness, GR will never go hungry again! Well, that is until the food runs out. But, I can’t think about that right now. I’ll think about that tomorrow. For now, I will think about the fun time that I had with my friends Sophie and Leandra…
And the wonderful swag that 3-A-Day so graciously provided for us:
Thank you Super Suppers Decatur and 3-A-Day for allowing me to participate in this event! You ladies are awesome and I enjoyed meeting all of you! Now, if you ever have an event in Chicago, um, my calendar is pretty darned open…
And finally, here’s a list of all of the wonderful bloggers that I got to meet:
The Lovely Mrs. Davis Tells You What to Think

Oh, gee, that sounds like fun. I’m glad you got to go!
You were kidding about the two thousand something something something miles right?
Waaa, how does one get an invite to fun (free) blogger meetups? And I used to LIVE in Decatur, doesn’t that count for something? Ok, if not, I’m having my 3 a day right now — coffee w/ CREAM, bagel w/ CREAM CHEESE, and… well, I’ll have more cheese later, I’m sure….
Anyway, glad y’all had fun!!
Thanks for the pics! I must do my post tonight or they might come and get all that wonderful free food out of my freezer!!
I love reliving the fun bits of my life on another’s blog! (I wonder why my husband doesn’t feel the same way). Wonderful photo journal, Lulu! It sure was fun!
Mom Huebert – I never knew that “cooking” could be so much fun!
Betty – I wouldn’t drive two thousand something something miles even if they were giving away money! But really…Decatur is a long distance from my home.
El-e-e – I wish you could have joined us! I like your idea of 3-A-Day…
Leandra – You are welcome!
And 3-A-Day has already contacted me about your lack of a post. They asked me to come to your house to confiscate your food. I will be there tonight. Have it ready. I’ve been asked to take your swag as well.
Yumm…but meatless lasgna..I don’t get it? Why???
Free Sangria and white wine though would for sure be worth the drive!
What a great idea! Sounds like fun to me.
Wow! that looks like fun…Im sad I missed out! Though the sangria and headache in a pretty bottle would have been torture…
okay, that definitely looks like fun! that’s coming from someone who’s also clueless in the kitchen!
glad you enjoyed the day AND the sangria! teehee!
I totally need something like this! I wish they would have an event like that here. Looks like you did a great job!
My, God, people. Send one of your dinners my way, already!
No, actually, my mom gave me a gift certificate to Super Suppers up here in PA so I just need to get over there rather than just fantasize about the days of meals ready to go when I get home…
It’s been fun comparing all of your similar but slightly different photos from the event. I love the captions, too.
