Jinkies! Lulu is a Nerd!

I am a nerd, y’all.  I’m a nerd with really bad hair who wears ugly knee socks.  It’s true.  A scientifically-proven test that I found over at Kelly’s blog, Cheaper Than a Happy Meal, tells me that I am…

You’re Velma, the dressed-in-orange, mystery-solving nerd. You know your friends appreciate having you around, but it’s frustrating when they take your brilliant ideas for granted. Sarcasm is one of your favorite tools, but you’re not always cynical – once in a while you meet someone who makes your heart say “jinkies!” and puts a big cartoon sparkle in your eye.

However, I’m really not too certain about the “brilliant ideas” part in that description.  Unless of course brilliant is meant in a sarcastic way, because God knows I’ve been known to come up with some real doozies in my time.  So, when you get a chance, go take the test for yourself and tell me what kind of nerd you are.  Hopefully it’s the kind with good hair.

And while we’re on the subject of nerdiness, Wolfie has tagged me with a meme that requires me to share 7 random and/or weird facts about myself.  So, in case you’re interested, here’s a glimpse of my nerdiness…

  1. I’ve been harboring a secret crush on Anderson Cooper for a couple of years now.  I personally think that he’s hot in a nerdy sort of way…especially after reading his book, Dispatches From the Edge.  Just because he’s the son of Gloria Vanderbilt does not mean that he’s led a life of glitz, glamour, and well-fitting jeans.  He’s experienced many tragedies in his life, and has built his journalism career without any help from his family name.  Jinkies!  He puts a big cartoon sparkle in my eye!  He would totally be my boyfriend if only I were a bit classier and could come up with some “brilliant ideas.”

  2. Anderson Cooper 1

  3. I wore Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and perfume when I was a young teen.  They were the first pair of designer jeans that I owned.  I believe that I also owned a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt frames.  I’m thrilled to know that my parent’s money was used in helping to support the underprivileged Anderson.

  4. Gloria Vanderbilt

  5. I eat corn nuts.  I love corn nuts.  I would share them with Anderson, but he’s probably way too classy to be eating them.  They’re kind of loud and crunchy.

  6. Corn nuts

  7. I can’t watch Extreme Home Makeover because I sob like a baby at the end of each show, and then I’m depressed for days afterwards.  And I also think that it’s kind of a disservice to some of those unfortunate people.  Why does the home that is built for them have to be so extravagant?  I mean, I can understand wanting to ease the hardship and pain that these people have gone through, but if a family is struggling for money in the first place, then how are they to afford the expenses that come with such a large, fancy house?  I would like to see follow-up shows of the people who have won these palaces.  Perhaps my boy Anderson could do a story on this.

  8. Extreme Makeover

  9. I have a thing for pens.  Yes, ink pens.  I have a pen holder on my desk at the office that is currently holding 27 of them.  Some are felt tip, some are ballpoint, and some are extra fine uni-balls—all in different colors, including neon orange.  I try to write with a different one each day in order to conserve the ink.  If I had a pocket on my shirt, I would wear a pocket protector filled with pens to prove my nerdiness.  I wonder if Anderson has a thing for pens?

  10. Pocket protector

  11. I keep hand sanitizer, nail clippers, tweezers, a Tide pen, and a lint roller in my purse.  I’m willing to bet that Anderson keeps the same items in his man purse.

  12. Hands

  13. I secretly love men with gray hair.  Richard Gere, Richard Dreyfuss, Dermot Mulrooney, and Eric Dane to name a few.  Oh, and Anderson Cooper.

  14. Anderson Cooper Vanity

And that pretty much wraps up my nerdiness, y’all.  Well, there’s actually more to it than just that, but the meme only calls for 7 quirks, so there you have it.

Have a happy Wednesday!  And try not to be such a nerd…

I have a feeling I’m a Velma, too, but I’ll just have to take the test.

So, if I read you correctly, you like Anderson? Good taste, friend.

Dear Lulu,

I swear, it’s unbelievable how much you are like me. I think you are my daughter, too.

From your list of “nerd” ways, I can relate to 4 out of 7 -

#1 - In my younger years, 25 - 40+ - I loved and wore “Gloria Vanderbilt” jeans and perfume.

# 2 - I have always loved “Richard Gere” and have to say I love men with gray hair (I have one now).

#3 - I love to watch “Extreme Make Over” (you know how I always loved decorating), but feel like crying too when I see it.

# 4 - PENS (of all things) I love them too and have about 100 at work (all colors) and use different ones every day. I match my pen “color” with my outfits, just like I do my jewelry.

(BUT, I HATE “CORN NUTS” — “Yuk”. But, I remember how you always loved them.

(P.S…. I know other ways that you took after your Aunt.

Susan - yes, I would say that I like Anderson just a tiny bit. You’ll have to let me know what kind of nerd you are.

Personally, I was hoping to be Long Duck Dawn from Sixteen Candles, but it just didn’t turn out that way…

You know he’s gay right? I mean, this should be nothing to stand in your way of a fantastical romance (have I mentioned once or twice or eight thousand times that I love Nathan Fillion?), but I thought I’d bring it up. But, yeah: he is FINE.

Extreme Makeover makes me all weepy, too.

And the HE to which I am referring above is Anderson Cooper. Damnit, failing to proof read bites me in the ass AGAIN!

Damn it, Alpha. My dreams are crushed.

Actually, I have heard the rumors, but since he refuses to openly admit it, I choose to believe that he is straight, and that I can one day gaze into those deep blue eyes of his while we hold freshly-sanitized hands, clip our nails, tweeze our eyebrows, and enjoy corn nuts together. So there.

Um, I think maybe you’re hinting that you have a bit of a crush?

Btw, I’ve never even heard of corn nuts. What are they like?

I was so glad AlphaDogMa broke the news to you. I was slightly afraid to. My friend’s sister lives in NY and says she sees him all over town with his, um, “friend.” Sorry!

You wanna know what makes this especially funny? I swear, this really happened: yesterday I picked up my new glasses. I usually wear contacts, but these glasses make me look like a really smart chick (or so I thought), so I ordered them. But when I put them on, with my bob haircut and turtleneck sweater, I’ll be damned if I didn’t look EXACTLY like Velma. Even my young’un said so! :p

Apparently I’m

the movie nerd who can do almost anything with a computer… or even a cell phone. Yeah, maybe you occasionally use your technical skills to take advantage of people, but you’re no criminal! You’re an unthreatening guy who likes to play with action figures and chat with friends online. You’re not the type to start trouble, but if a stranger tries to blow up your apartment (or take away your high-speed Internet) you’ll do whatever it takes to get things back to normal.

I never even saw that movie. *shrug*

I too have a crush on Anderson Cooper. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed his guest stint on the Glenn Beck show as guest host last week; he was extremely casual and quite funny as he interviewed Glenn Beck about his new book. Best Glenn Beck show I ever saw. ;)

As for Extreme Makeover, I was just thinking the other day that Ty Pendington has come a long way from male model; now everyone thinks he’s an expert on carpentry and he does commercials and has his own show. All because of Trading Spaces.

J. Lynne - I’m ashamed to admit that I didn’t know who Glenn Beck is until I googled him. Does he have a TV show? I looked up the local affiliate in Atlanta, and only found him on an AM radio station between the hours of 9am-12pm.
