Treats for My Sweets

Is it Valentine’s Day yet, people?  Because Lulu is getting all aflutter.  In fact, Lulu is getting all aflutter and gift-givey-ish.  And that only means one thing—I’m giving away a little Valentine’s Day gift to one lucky reader.  And I promise that it’s not my old love letters that I’m giving away, y’all.  Oh, no.  Lulu is giving away pink girlie-girl stuff:

Valentine’s Day giveaway

Yes, you could be the proud owner of your very own pink poodle, strawberry milkshake Whoppers, and a cute little cartoon that takes place in one of the most romantic cities in the world—Paris.

All you have to do to win this bundle of goodies is leave a comment on this post before 7pm EST on Valentine’s Day (that is February 14 for those of you who live in a hovel) and tell me the name of your most favorite romance movie.  I have many favorites, and one of them happens to be Only You with Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei.  Um, didn’t I once mention that I’m an unromantic freak of nature?  Let’s just file that away in the back of our minds for now.

hearts and ribbons

Next, I have to tell you that I am so very excited that I received my Valentine’s Day Goody Swap gift from Illahee just in time for Valentine’s Day!  It came all the way from Japan, y’all!  And even though it’s not a big, juicy, sparkly 3-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring as I requested damn it, I still LOVE it.  Mainly because of the stunning red, Asian-themed box and gorgeous black ribbon that the gift came wrapped in:

Japanese gift box

And inside the box are these beautiful chocolate fans:

chocolate fans

Do you think it’s okay to eat such intricate pieces of art?  I don’t know, maybe I’ll just stare at them for a while.  And drool a little bit.  Thank you, Illahee for such a delightful gift, and hugs to Kailani for, as always, sponsoring such a fun gift swap!

hearts and ribbons

I know that I’m all blabbery and aflutter today, but I have one final tidbit of love to share with you—Strawberry Quickbread.  My most favorite bread evah, and it makes the most perfect gift for Valentine’s Day.  To make it, you’ll need to read this:

bread recipe

And then you’ll have to get all of your ingredients together like The Pioneer Woman Cooks does.  But without the fancy camera.  And witty banter.  And gorgeous husband.  And Photoshop skills.  And beautiful children.  Damn her and her high heels and tractor wheels.

bread ingredients

And once you have all the ingredients mixed together and ready for the oven, it should look something like this.  Pepto-Bismol with little red chunks.  Tasty.

ready for the oven

And when it comes out of the oven, it should look something like this.  Kind of.  That is, if I wouldn’t have filled the openings all the way to the top like a moron:

baked bread

And while the bread is cooling, you should prepare gift plates…something like this should do:

Pink plate

And after the bread cools, you should place each loaf on a pink gift plate something like this:

bread on pink plate

And then you should wrap them all in cellophane paper (or in my case, plastic wrap and tissue paper) with pretty pink bows something like this:

wrapped bread

And then you should take them all to your neighbors and friends. Because this clearly isn’t within your Weight Watchers point range for the day.  Or the week.  The smell alone will cost you 2 points.

Disclaimer:  Please note the flagrant use of should and something like.  Lulu is not a baker, nor has she ever claimed to be one.  Your bread should turn out just fine, but if it turns out something like strawberry goo, Lulu will not be held responsible, nor will she available for consultation.  Unless you pay her.

hearts and ribbons

Check back on Thursday, folks!  I’ve got one more day of love, smooches, and Valentine Day goodies to share…

My favourite romantic movie? My MOST favourite? Oh, that’s a toughie. I like my romance with a bit of humour in the mix. I’m kinky that way. I love Love, Actually andYou’ve Got Mail, but right now I’m very much in the mood for My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Now about this recipe: does it make four loaves? Four standard issue sandwich size bread loaves or four mini sized bread loaves? Because I like to make mini things. I have delusions of giganticism. I’m kinky that way.

Lulu,
I confess. I hate v day. I hate it. But perhaps the straweberry whoppers will help make it a bit better. Sappy movie…my fav…uh….um….Dead Calm. I like that one. I mean the husband saves his wife. That was nice. I also really do like Zeus and Roxanne. That might be the best.

AlphaKinkyWoMAn - ooh! I forgot about Love, Actually. Definitely at the top of my list, too. And it has nothing to do with Colin Firth, of course. Those are mini-loaves, by the way. No delusions there.

Leigh - Dead Calm? Um, interesting choice. I would file that under the Romantic Thriller category, if there is such a thing.

I’ve never met a romantic movie I haven’t liked.

Pink poodle! Pink poodle! How cute.

Love the fan chocolates–the box is beautiful! Almost better than the chocolates themselves! (I say almost because nothing is really better than chocolate. Only more lasting. Because chocolate disappears in 3.2 seconds. In my house, anyway.)

So… my favorite romantic movie, eh? I like so many… Ever After is a favorite… but I think I’d have to choose So I Married an Axe Murderer. That’s my favorite movie of all time. And it has some romantic parts in it.

“Heed! Pants! Now!”

My favorite romantic movie is Firelight. I’ve watched it too many times to remember. Sophie Marceau and Stephen Dillane. Very closely followed by Pride and Prejudice (the A&E production).

My favorite romantic movie is French Kiss with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline. Pretty much anything with Kevin Kline is okay in my book, but I watch this one all the time.

Those fans are gorgeous! You could eat one and keep one! A perfect solution.

It’s so hard to pick just one. I’ll say “Roman Holiday” with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. (Yup, I’m old…but not THAT old. *LOL*)

I’m with Leandra on this one. French Kiss is one of my all time favorite movies. I giggle like a maniac all the way through it. Which completely makes up for the fact that Valentine’s Day is a really crappy holiday that I’m not very fond of.

Well, this probably shows how stinkin’ old I am, but I love the movie The Year of Living Dangerously. Very romantic, under all that political turmoil. Also, I love Persuasion, the one that was made in the mid-90’s.

Pumpkin would love that pink poodle. It would match the pink sparkle shoes I bought her this weekend.

My Dearest LuLu,
FIRST of all, “HAPPY VALENTINES DAY” to my “special” niece.

Being born and raised as a true Southern lady (GA Peach), I
must say, “Fiddle-dee-dee, frankly my dear, my most favorite romance movie of all times is “GONE WITH THE WIND”.

It is an American classic in which a manipulative woman, Scarlett O’Hara (played by Vivian Leigh) and a roguish man, Capt. Rhett Butler (played by Clark Gable) carry on a turbulent love affair in the South (Atlanta) during the Civil War.

The movie tells you about the true South, how it was before the War, and how it drastically changed after the War.
(The movie won 8 oscars)

P.S… I loved your receipe for “Strawberry Quick Bread”.
Mmmm, I can just smell it now and taste it. (Save one for me)

LOVE AND HUGS

Those fans are beautiful and I agree w/kailani they look too good to eat. You know how i love strawberries, I will have to have Mr. Dewars make some quick bread for me. for i am not the baker in the family either, nor the cook! LOL. T

Anyway, my favorite romantic movie is….Urban Cowboy. When i used to work in that video store (circa 1987) i would open the store everyday & watch/listen to this movie, i know it almost word for word! Go to my space & it is listed 1st as favorite films.

Tell 2nd Momma Joan & Daddy Dave I said hello & we will see them this weekend!

My all time favorite romance saga is Pride and Prejudice. The A&E version with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcey. Swoon! After that, I’d have to go with Sleepless in Seattle as a close runner-up.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
