Pull out your tissues, people. This one is a real tear-jerker of a post. We’re dealing with onions.
Did you know that Outback Steakhouse is celebrating its 20th birthday? Booyah! Or, I guess in Aussiespeak, I should say—Onya! Or something like that.
Nevertheless, not only is it the 20th birthday of Outback Steakhouse, but it’s also the anniversary of the Bloomin’ Onion, y’all. Have you ever tried one of those things? My God, my mouth waters and my hips grow wider just thinking about it. And believe it or not, Lulu can eat an entire Bloomin’ Onion by herself. I pinky swear I’ve done it before. I was deathly rather nauseated after I did it, but it was well worth the delectable feat!
And sadly, I did not receive a t-shirt like the El Gigante t-shirt that GR received when he ate the ginormous burrito. I totally want one that says “This Bloomin’ Idiot ate an Entire Bloomin’ Onion.” They are just that good, y’all. If you don’t believe me, just look at the facts:
- 15 million Bloomin’ Onions are sold each year. (Lulu’s onion is included in that total.)
- Before it is “bloomed,” each onion is specially grown to be 16 ounces big and 4 inches wide. (Lulu’s stomach knows that’s a big damn onion.)
- The Bloomin’ Onion remains true to its original recipe: 17 different spices to flavor the onion and an additional 37 spices in the dipping sauce. (This is why Lulu ate an entire one by herself.)
So, in celebration of these achievements (excluding Lulu’s), Outback has created a select number of special menu items available through April. Click the link here to see how delicious they look! My personal favorite is the Slow-Roasted Sirloin Medley.
And not only that, but Outback Steakhouse has sent me a $25 gift card to give away to one of my lucky readers!
To win, all you have to do is view the special menu items, and then come back here and tell me how you would spend your $25! You have until midnight 6:30pm EST March 17 to leave your comment. I’ll post the winner on March 18.
Half your luck, mate!

I must say that I would eat the Fresh Talipa w/pure lump crab meat. Trust me when I tell you this that Mr. Dewars would say. Miss Margarita you are at a steak house, so you should eat what they specilaize in & after deliberation I would probably agree with him & change my mind & order the Sirloin, Shrimp & Scallops Mixd Grill, at least that way I get seafood in the mix too. And of course a margarita to boot! That is how I would spend the $25 gift card that they so genersouly sent you.
Since it’s not even 10 in the morning, I should not be drooling so much over Outback but you have managed to shoot my diet and give me some serious cravings all in one post! Chargrilled Tuscan Ribeye is calling my name and it’s getting louder as the minutes tick by. Even without a gift card, I think I might be doing Outback tonight.
I think I would go for the Tilapia with Pure Lump Crab Meat… mmmm just look at that! yum!
“Fresh Tilapia crowned with a crab stuffing, then topped with pure lump crab meat and sliced white button mushrooms, finished with a drizzel of light lemon-butter Chablis sauce. Served with fresh grilled asparagus.”
YUM! Plus… that would save me some calories so I could also spring for the BLOOMIN ONION! YEAH BABY!

Um, YUM! Lulu - I would spend my gift card on 3 bloomin’ onions (yes, I LOVE those things!). After that, I would have $5.53 that I would put towards the tuscan steak. I’d contribute from my own funds for the rest…including a tasty beer to wash it down! Yum!
If I win - I’ll take you and GR with me! G’day!
Yummmm! I’ve been craving Outback this pregnancy. I have to say I’d go for a Steak/Shrimp/Scallop Mixed Grill, and a Bloomin Onion. I want to go NOW!!!!
I’m SO torn. $25 doesn’t go a long way…So this is what I would do.
Order water and split the bloomin onion with the hubby..cause I don’t want to be a piggy. I would stick with water so I have more room for food.
I would WANT to order the Talipia cause it looks SO DARN YUMMY..but I wouldn’t. It’s called “Steakhouse” for a reason. I think I would go with the Slow Roasted Sirloin Medly. Why do you ask, I’ll tell you. Slow Roasted = Melt In Your Mouth..does it not? It ALSO has lots of veggies which are good for you. I especially love spinach, tomatoes and asparagus. It’s like they MADE this especially FOR ME.
But the real question was..How would I spend my $25 Gift Card. Well I would buy one of those Chocolate Thunder From Down Under for myself..AND one for my husband. We would still have a couple dollars left for 2 cups of coffee.
….Hubby mentioned going out to dinner tonight..I may have a suggestion!!

I’d order the Bloomin’ Onion.
Wow… well, first I think I’d invite my hubby to go with me, and first I’d order a rum-and-coke-zero. Dinner would have to be the Chargrilled Tuscan Ribeye–THAT looks FANTASTIC! No dessert, though–I’m afraid Outback doesn’t offer anything sugar-free. So I guess I’d have to get my sugar from Mr.W instead.

I would eat the bloomin’ onion, of course! Though the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under is a close second… Think I could handle both? Yes, yes I do!

Dear LuLu,
I gave this a lot of thought, and decided, if I won the free $25 gift card, I would invite Joan (your Mom) to go with me. And, we would splurge on the “Chocolate Thunder from Down Under”. I know how much she LOVES chocolate nut brownies and vanilla ice creaM. It is soooooooo yummy.
P.S…. My favorite “new” special menu item would also be the
“Slow-Roasted Sirlion Medley”. It looks DELICIOUS.
LOVE AND HUGS
Dude! I would totally call you up (in a non-blogger-stalkerish kind of way, of course) and we’d hit up Outback and eat our weight in Bloomin’ Onions! And girlfriend, on my end, that’s a HELLA lot of onions!
And if that plan didn’t work, I’d take hubby and I’d hook myself up with one of those Bloomin’ Onions and a Chargrilled Tuscan Ribeye. I’d also finish up with the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under. Or I might skip the onions/ribeye and just go straight to the chocolate. I’m crazy like that!

Well,
I’d most def start with a bloomin onion. Cause well they are delicious!
Then I’d order me up a sirloin, shrimp and scallops mixed grill. Cause I love me some meat.
Then I’d get some dessert. Which ever one fit my fancy while I was there. lol.
I hope I win! I haven’t gone out to dinner in ages!!

You crack me up! My MIL is so obsessed with Bloomin’ Onions that she has spent DAYS trying to figure out the recipe.
I was really hoping that the new menu items would include something veggie-freak friendkly. Alas, Bloomin’ Onions and dessert it is, as usual. For some reason, that doesn’t sound all that bad!
Lulu, I think I would spend the GC on sme of the great signiture appetizers( bloomin onion, of course, cheese fires (my favo) and coconut shrimp) and then order up a thuder from down under for dessert. I would invite a group of girlfriends (maybe??) to help me eat it all. Sounds delicious. I love Outback too! YUMMO!
