Philadelphia Freedom

So, I spent my last full day in Philadelphia pondering over the fact that if I lived here (which, by the way, I totally could!), there is no doubt that my belly would grow to be the size of Ben Franklin’s.

Ben Franklin

There are just that many good restaurants here, y’all!  Don’t get me wrong…I have been doing other things besides eating, such as a lot of sightseeing, sitting through countless conference sessions (the real reason I’m here…yawn!), and did I mention a helluva a lot of sightseeing?  It just seems that no matter where I go, there’s a wide variety of food for the partaking!

And my most favorite place of all?  Well, it’s not just one place, really.  It’s the wonderful Reading Terminal Market.  The market is described as a “gastronomic bazaar.”  And I can’t think of a better description than that.

It’s a fairly crowded place throughout the day:

Inside market

I ate at Profi’s Creperie for breakfast this morning—I had a crepe with bananas, honey, and walnuts…

Creperie

I ate at 12th Street Cantina for lunch today…fish tacos…yum!

Cantina

I ate at Delilah’s for lunch yesterday.  Oprah raves about their macaroni & cheese.  Personally, I think that my Aunt T makes it better…

And I had a cookie from here…

Cookies

Who could resist?  They are amazing!

Lots of cookies

There’s so many places to choose from…

Mid eastern

juice bar

Rick’s phillies

Peking duck

pizza

seafood

Pearl’s Oyster Bar

And one must not forget the candy and cupcakes:

Candy 2

 Candy 3

You can even buy fresh milk.  Fresh milk straight from the farm, people!

The Amish will be at the market in the morning selling their wares.  I’m totally going one more time before flying home…

Was that a Ben impersonator, or some random guy with an odd sense of fashion?

And I’m learning: I only visit you when I have a full stomach. This way I’m less likely to binge.

Would it be wrong for me to go on vacation at this wonderful Reading Terminal? That would be the only place I would visit. I would just camp out under the tables or something. Hmmmm…must speak to hubby about this immediately!

I need to have a little to my husband. His family is from South Jersey which is about 30 mins from Philly and we visited them several times.. He never took me there!!! Why?.. Looks so yummy. Remind me of the night market in Thailand. :) Food everywhere. What a paradise.

Good God! Be thankful that you don’t work around there all the time. Lunch hours could be a problem in that place. My hair stood on end when you said fish tacos….ewwwww!!!!!

I can’t tell you how homesick you’ve made me…I used to work about a minute away from the Terminal. I miss it so!

Did you get anything at Termini Bros? Their chocolate-covered bananas are *to die for* :)

Popping over from an Island Life, great site! I’m glad you liked your time in my home town. Reading Terminal is my all time favorite. If you are ever in town again you have to go to the Greek place and get a Gyro - they are awesome! Great pictures!

I’m coming via Island Life, where you are nominated for the Best Looking blog award. Your blog is quite pretty!

I used to live in Philly and am happy to hear that you are having a good time. Philadelphia is a great city that never gets the credit it deserves. Everyone always talks about NY and Chicago and LA and Miami, but Philly is really artsy and fun. I miss living there, but just needed to get out of cities and back into the fresh air.

I’ll be checking back soon!
